Robert Gale Garner Sr. I was at Camp Hovey, roughly 11 miles or so from the DMZ. We were billeted in concrete block "super hooches" & some men were in Guonsohuts. We had a movie theatre, clubs, massage parlor, barbershop & a px all on the Camp Out the back gate was the ville, Toko-Ri,with bars, girls, food, clothes etc., etc. all for sale. Go out the front gate a mile or 2 & you were in Camp Casey, where 2nd I.D. HQ was back then. Dong-Tu-shon is the big ville there {TDC}. Outside of TDC there
is a big memorial to the Korean War veterans. Live combat patrols were still being run in the DMZ in 1977. My infantry bn.
never rotated up to the DMZ, though, while I was there. One hi-rise hotel had been built in TDC just before I left in
May of 77 & a friend went over in Sept of 2006 & said there were 6 or 7 hotels
in TDC & it has grown to be a big city & he said Seoul was still building
everywhere, daily. A bustling, vibrant economy thanks to the blood, sweat &
tears of many Korean War veterans from all the allied nations. Thank You for
your service. Robt. {Bobby} Garner Sr. Csc 4.2 inch mortar plt. F.O., 1st Bn./38th
