Killed by an exploding NKPA booby trap while
investigating an illegal tunnel at the DMZ. |

Bonifas, Maj. Arthur George |
Attacked by NKPA soldiers while trimming a tree on the
DMZ. Dropped by NKPA Senior Lt. Pak Chul with a
Taekwondo chop to his neck. Chopped to death by axes
by several NKPA guards. Known as the Axe Murder
Incident. |
Aug. 18, 1976 |
Barrett, Lt. Mark |
Killed by repeated blows his head from NKPA soldiers in
the Axe Murder Incident. Found alive in a ditch but
died en route to 121 Evacuation Hospital. |

Crew member of a US Army CH-47 helicopter killed when
his aircraft was shot down after it strayed into North
Korean airspace. 17th Aviation Group. |

his aircraft was shot down after it strayed into North

Killed by a mine explosion during the "Anderson Patrol".
A patrol of US GI's got lost in dense fog, accidentally
crossed the MDL, walked into a minefield, and came under
attack by the NKPA. |

Hodges, PO1C Duane D. |
Crew member of USS Pueblo (AGER-2) killed when the ship
was attacked off North Korea by North Koreans. Killed
while destroying classified documents when a 55mm shell
struck him. |

KIA while serving in Co. A, 32 Inf., 7ID. |

KIA when hostile forces ambushed a patrol near the
demilitarized zone on the South and North Korea border. |

Hilemon, CWO David Michael |
A US Army OH-58 Light Observation Helicopter from the
2nd Infantry Division he and CWO2 Bobby Hall strayed into
the DMZ, and mistakenly crossed the MDL. The
helicopter was shot down and Hilemon was killed. |
